ABOUT FATHER CHRIS

Rev. Fr. Chris Onyenobiis the first son of Mr. Adolphus Igbokwudu Onyenobi and Mrs. Monica Iheoma Onyenobi. He was born on May 20th, 1944 and had his primary education at St. Mary’s Catholic School, Ubomiri from 1952-1960. With the completion of his primary education, he trained in Leventis Technical Ibadan as Office Machine Engineer from 1962-1965.

With the outbreak of the war, he enrolled in the Biafran army, to defend Biafra from extermination by the Federal Forces. He attained the Rank of Sergeant before the end of the conflict. Those who know him see in his mannerisms the determination and discipline of a soldier.

The vocation to the Priesthood came to him late, and in 1971 he entered St. Theresa’s Minor Seminary, Oke-are, Ibadan. That marked the beginning of his journey to the Priesthood (1971-1975). At the end of his post-primary education, he began his Philosophical and Theological studies respectively (1975-1983) at SS Peter and Paul Seminary, Bodija Ibadan.

Father Chris employs his best in any assignment put under his charge. Among his pastoral assignments throughout his seven years in the Seminary, he was a Summer School Supervisor for four Consecutive long vacations (1980-1983). He was the Supervisor of the Christian family movement Summer School SS Peter and Paul, Bodija, which involved working with 500 students ranging in age from 1 to 5 years. He knows how to organize students, and these experiences have allowed him to perfect his dealings with people of all ages and at all stages in life.

Father Chris jogs about 500 meters in the morning and evening. He is also a weight bearer boxer, judorist, and an all-around good athlete. During the last all-seminary games, he won a gold medal in the 1,500 meter race.

In addition to being a superb athlete, Father Chris also plays the guitar. His first album, popularly known as “Fly away from Fornication,” is very popular music in his native land.
With his ordination, Christopher becomes the third indigenous Priest of Ubomiri and he prays God will bless his town and those who are taking after his steps.
